Summer is slowly coming to an end and your child may be going back to school in person soon! Dr. Updike, an Irvine orthodontist, shares some tips to ensure your child has a seamless transition back to school with their braces.
1. Eating at School
If your child recently got their braces on over the summer, it is important to discuss or even pack easy to eat foods and snacks while they’re in school. School lunches can consist of harder to eat food (such as raw vegetables) and discourage your child from eating.
2. Dental Hygiene
While your child might have gotten used to being home and having access to everything they may need for their braces, it is important to always pack emergency braces care such as braces picks and wax. Should anything happen during school such as a bracket breaking or foods getting stuck between their braces, your child is prepared.
3. Extracurricular Activities
Lastly, if your child is old enough to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports or band, it is important to discuss the risks that may occur during those activities. Whether it’s making sure your child wears a mouthguard during sports practice or has enough wax if they play an instrument that may interfere with their braces, it’s best to be prepared.
