What are Wisdom teeth?
Wisdom teeth are the third molars located in the back of the mouth. Because of oral hygiene advancements, we no longer need our wisdom teeth like our predecessors did many years ago. Most people have 4 wisdom teeth- two at the top, and top on the bottom. Some may never grow them, others may have them and they may erupt through the gums or may be impacted (grows at an angle)
When To Remove Wisdom Teeth?
Many patients wonder if they need to have their wisdom teeth removed prior to orthodontic treatment. This ultimately depends on case by case, as everyone is different. Before orthodontic treatment begins, we typically take x-rays to check if one has wisdom teeth and if there is room for them in the jaw and gums.

Can I Remove Wisdom Teeth During Treatment?
A misconception is that one cannot remove their wisdom teeth during treatment. This is possible, but we advise that the orthodontic treatment may be extended due to the healing process. One can also remove their wisdom teeth after orthodontic treatment, but again, it depends on each situation.
