The New Year is officially here so Dr. Updike, an Irvine orthodontist, discusses the top three tips to achieve the perfect smile in 2019.
Proper Oral Hygiene
The perfect smile isn’t just about appearance, but also the overall oral hygiene. We recommend flossing at least once a day, brushing twice a day, and using mouthwash.
As we age, our gums begin to weaken and teeth begin to decay, so maintaining excellent oral hygiene leads to a healthier smile. By practicing proper oral hygiene, you also prevent gum diseases such as gingivitis and cavities. This also includes visiting your dentist for a professional teeth cleaning twice a year.
Whitening Toothpaste
Many of us indulge in coffee or tea, which tend to stain the teeth over time. Switch to a whitening toothpaste that helps removes stains, fight cavities, and improves the appearance of your teeth!
However, if you currently are wearing braces, we do not recommend a professional teeth whitening treatment until you have removed your braces. This is because the treatment is intensive and may leave harsh lines where the brackets are.
Orthodontic Treatment
If you have been concerned with the appearance of your smile due to overcrowding, gaps, underbite, overbite, etc., now is the perfect time to consider orthodontic treatment. Whether you are a teenager or an adult, orthodontic treatment has been normalized in recent years. In addition, there are many new discreet options for treatment such as Invisalign or clear braces. This is the one tip that will guarantee the perfect smile, as orthodontic treatments aim to realign the teeth and bite overall.
Now you are ready to achieve the perfect healthy smile. If you are ready to take the next step for orthodontic treatment, our friendly staff at Updike Orthodontist is happy to set you up with a free consultation at your earliest convenience! Contact us at (949) 870-9713.
